Mamdani roasted for ‘idiotic and moronic’ warning on NYC snowstorm

For some, Mayor Zohran Mamdani has failed in what has traditionally been a big test for New York City mayors: dealing with a major snowstorm.

The new mayor was ridiculed online after warning of the upcoming snow event this weekend, the New York Post reports.

“New York City is expected to receive 3 to 16 inches of snow this weekend. We are ready,” Mamdani wrote on X on Thursday afternoon as part of a post on the city preparing for the storm.

“3-16, here’s how to narrow down your prediction,” one user on X commented.

“It’s nonsense to say New York City will get 3 to 16 inches of snow,” another said. “That tells you absolutely nothing. Quoting numbers with a probability ranging from 5 to 95 percent is stupid and idiotic.”

“Maybe they forgot the 1 in front of the 3? I don’t know?” said another snarky commenter.

The Washington Post said that when Mamdani issued the statement, the National Weather Service had placed the five administrative regions under a winter storm warning, with snowfall expected to reach 6 to 12 inches.

The city is currently expected to receive 8 to 14 inches of snow this weekend.

New York City’s mayor has been heavily criticized in the past for his poor response to snowstorms.

In 2014, Mayor Bill de Blasio fretted after islanders complained of slow rescue operations with plows and salt machines after a major snowstorm.

In 1969, the city was slow to respond to a snowstorm that devastated Mayor John Lindsay.

When the city was devastated by the 2010 Christmas blizzard, Mayor Michael Bloomberg was hit hard, too.

That year, Bloomberg pushed back against critics’ claims that the city was slow to respond to the storm, saying “all is well in the city. Broadway shows were sold out last night.”
