Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-Louisiana, accused his primary opponent, Rep. Julia Letlow, of taking a “Nancy Pelosi approach” in stock trading, claiming she made investments within days of subcommittee hearings involving the companies.
Incumbent Sen. Cassidy, who is working to defend his seat, joined the “Fox News Digest” podcast ahead of Saturday’s Republican primary.
“She’s doing great financially,” Cassidy told Fox News Radio’s Jessica Rosenthal. “I just want to point out that this is kind of like Nancy Pelosi’s approach to the stock market, and that’s public record.”
Cassidy argued that public records show Letlow bought or sold stock within days of subcommittee hearings related to the companies. Letlow previously denied similar accusations in April after attack ads made the same point.

“I violated absolutely no federal law,” Letlow told Fox 8 at the time. “My portfolio is managed by a third party. Whenever I’m elected to Congress, it’s very important to me to make sure I have absolutely no direction on that.”

But Cassidy claims Letlow’s agent provided no evidence that the transactions were made independently. “She claims her agent did this independently. They asked the agent for a letter to that effect and the agent did not provide it,” he said.
Letlow’s campaign fired back in a statement to Fox News Digital, calling the claims a ploy to save his campaign.

“This is Bill Cassidy’s last ditch effort to discredit Julia Letlow because he knows he’s going to lose tomorrow,” Letlow’s campaign spokesperson Katherine Sodar said.

“President Trump supports Julia Letlow because he knows she is a strong conservative who will stand with him and fight for his America First agenda in the United States Senate. Ultimately, Bill Cassidy will do or say anything to distract from his own record, including his vote to impeach President Trump.”
Cassidy also reiterated Letlow’s “liberal” rhetoric and pointed to her past statements advocating for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

This comment comes from a video of Letlow interviewing to become university president in 2020 Louisiana Monroe. In the video, Letlow called the school’s record on teacher gender diversity “shameful,” praised DEI efforts across the country and said she wanted to open the school’s first DEI department.

“She said DEI should have a fully staffed unit that reports to the president and is listened to before any decisions are made,” Cassidy said on the podcast. “Now people in Louisiana don’t think that way.”
Earlier this week, Letlow defended her record on the “Fox News Compendium” podcast, calling DEI projects she once oversaw a “hijacking.”[ed]” was converted to “Marxism” by the political left.

“DeI was introduced to higher education six years ago as a tool to encourage students, staff and faculty to work hard and achieve the American dream,” Letlow said.
She added: “I quickly witnessed the left completely hijacking all of these efforts and turning them into Marxist indoctrination of our students, pushing people down instead of lifting them up.”

Letlow said the DEI issue is more complex than the ads or Cassidy suggest, and she believes it started out as a tool for student success but has since been twisted into something she opposes.
“When I see this firsthand, because I work in education, I’ve been fighting it in Congress for the last five years,” she added.
