Longtime NFL Announcer Stepping Away Amid Controversy

Longtime NFL broadcaster Paul Allen has resigned amid controversy.

Allen, the longtime NFL broadcaster for the Minnesota Vikings, sparked controversy last week with his comments about Minnesota protesters. Allen joked that protesters in Minnesota might get more money because of the cold weather. The longtime NFL broadcaster cited long-standing conspiracy theories that many of the protesters were actually paid by larger companies and organizations.

“Can a paid protester get hazard pay in this situation?” he told his co-hosts on “The Paul Allen Show” on Friday.

He later added: “Everyone has been catching stray dogs this week. [Brian] Flores, Kevin Stefanski of Baker [Mayfield]Charlie ‘Biyach’ suddenly caught one. It’s all over, paid protesters caught one this morning. “

Allen has since apologized.

“The comments I made on the air Friday about protesters and the weather were insensitive and inappropriate and I’m sorry,” he said. “This was a misguided attempt at humor, and while it was never meant in any way to be malicious or politically offensive, I absolutely wholeheartedly want to apologize to those who were genuinely hurt or offended. There will be no political views from Nine to Noon. We do not bash or praise political discussions or even focus on political issues.”
