CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, Italy, Feb 13 (Reuters) – Lindsay Vonn said on Friday she would undergo a fourth surgery after a horrific crash during a downhill race at the Winter Olympics, as the U.S. skiing superstar described her recovery in hospital as slow and uncertain.
The 41-year-old, who has been undergoing treatment in the city of Treviso since Sunday, said she was “finally feeling more like myself” after some difficult days, but warned she was still “a long, long way” away from another operation scheduled for Saturday.

“Tomorrow, I’m going to have another surgery and hopefully everything goes well and then I’ll probably leave and go home and at that point I’ll need another surgery,” she said in a video posted on social media. “Until I get better imaging, I still don’t know what exactly that means, but that’s where I am now.”

Vaughn, who suffered a complex leg fracture in the fall, said she was largely immobilized in the hospital and is waiting to have her full recovery determined. She thanked medical staff, family and supporters for the messages and gifts that helped her get through the ordeal, adding that watching her fellow Americans compete kept her spirits up as she begins what is expected to be a long recovery process.
