It’s safe to say that LeBron James is a fan of Philadelphia 76ers star guard Tyrese Maxey.

James and Maxi have been training together in the summer for several years, and James has enjoyed watching Maxi grow from relatively humble beginnings to superstardom.

“This kid has it all,” James said of Maxey. “Not only is he one of the best point guards in the Eastern Conference, he’s one of the best point guards in the NBA.”
Considering Maxey’s performance on the court so far this season, it’s nearly impossible to argue with James’ statement. The sixth-year guard is averaging 31.0 points, 7.0 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game this season. All of these numbers represent career highs.

Maxey is also the main reason why the 76ers are currently ranked fifth in the Eastern Conference with a record of 19 wins and 15 losses. Without his consistent production and high usage rate, Philadelphia’s prospects this season will be even bleaker.
When Maxey was passed by the 76ers with the 21st overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, there was no guarantee that he would become an All-Star. However, dedication and hard work helped him achieve his current position.
“I’ve been working out and training with him the past few summers,” James said of Maxey. “We’re in the gym every morning at 5 o’clock, 5:30, whatever, in the gym. You just see his dedication. Showing up on time, on target every day. A guy who loves the game and takes full advantage of the opportunity in Philadelphia.”
However, as a big fan of James’ performance on the court, he seems to prefer Maxey’s performance off the court.

“I love this kid — I talked about him not too long ago when we played Philadelphia, not only what an unbelievable basketball player he is, but how good he is as a person,” James said. “That says a lot because he’s an unbelievable basketball player.”
For someone who has covered Maxey extensively since entering the league, he appears to be a genuine, down-to-earth guy who also has incredible ability when it comes to basketball and approaches the game with a real desire to improve. It’s easy to root for people like this.
