LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (PIX11) — Nearly five dozen school districts on Long Island have tested positive for lead in their drinking water, according to the New York Department of Health.
Test results showed that nearly 40 school districts in Suffolk County and more than 20 in Nassau had lead levels exceeding 5 micrograms per liter.

Based on the test results, schools must remove affected water fountains from use and provide free replacements. Schools must also notify staff and parents in writing of positive test results.
The school must immediately implement the rectification action plan and conduct post-mortem inspections after completion.
