The New England Patriots and wide receiver Stefon Diggs are reportedly actively working to resolve his contract situation. A final decision is expected to be made in the coming weeks, according to MassLive’s Mark Daniels and Karen Guregian.
With Diggs’ contract carrying a cap hit of $26.5 million through 2026, there are reportedly a number of possibilities, including a restructured deal in which Diggs remains in New England, no restructured deal or the team keeping its current deal intact.

As noted in a MassLive report, the team is clearly looking to restructure. Daniels and Guregjian wrote:
“If Diggs wants to stay in New England, he will have to restructure his contract to lower the salary cap, a source said. The Patriots are willing to give him an incentive-rich deal that would allow the veteran to make money back — if he performs well.”
A second source in the report believes Diggs won’t be willing to restructure his current contract, which could cause problems for the Patriots, who have begun considering options to replace Diggs if negotiations fail.
He will receive $6 million guaranteed on March 13.

Diggs was a big part of the Patriots’ offense last season. He caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns. No other receiver since Julian Edelman has surpassed 1,000 yards for New England.
The Patriots will soon make a decision that will have major ripple effects for the franchise’s future.
