One angry Reddit user lost his patience when his neighbor’s neglected swimming pool turned into a mosquito breeding ground.
“We couldn’t go out last summer,” said a frustrated Reddit user. “[After] Even if you’re outside for ten seconds, six mosquitoes will jump on you. “

As if the itchiness of mosquito bites isn’t enough, mosquitoes are indeed a health problem, according to this Reddit user. “Where I live (coastal Texas), Zika virus has been reported to be present in mosquitoes,” they shared.
The post appeared on r/legaladvice, a Reddit subreddit that some homeowners turn to when communication breaks down and legal action becomes necessary.
In this case, language barriers are part of the problem. “I can’t approach a family with a swimming pool because they speak zero English,” the Reddit user said.
Instead, the Reddit user claims they used the drone photos to contact authorities, including the homeowners association (HOA) and the city’s law enforcement. “The HOA won’t accept my photos as evidence because they say it’s a privacy issue and it’s not visible from the street,” they said.
Reddit users reported that code enforcement told them similar information. “He said he couldn’t simply look out because of the brick wall, and I was two doors away so he couldn’t see it with his own eyes. The property you were allowed to look out on has been foreclosed on.”
However, they did attach the shocking photo to the Reddit post. In the image, the pool appears a striking green color, brighter than the nearby grass, and is clearly covered in algae.
“I recommend checking your HOA regulations and city code to see what applies to the situation,” one commenter said. “There may be a hazard or nuisance. Quote directly what applies and include it in a letter to the HOA or city code enforcement.”
Another user suggested a “vector control program” that would address possible “disease vectors” such as mosquitoes that could make people sick. ‘Look below'[name of city or county] vector control. ‘”
A third commenter offers a practical solution. “My sister bought about 40 goldfish from the pet store [my mother’s old pool]there have been schools of fish for many years. They eat mosquito larvae…the fish seem happy with the algae and don’t need care. “
