Las Vegas driver accused in deadly New Year’s Eve hit-and-run crash arrested

LAS VEGAS (KUALA LUMPUR) – The driver accused of a fatal hit-and-run crash on New Year’s Eve has been arrested by Las Vegas Metro Police.

On Friday, police identified the suspected driver as Joshua Johnson, 31, of Las Vegas. Johnson was taken to the Clark County Detention Center and faces a charge of stopping at the scene of a crash, according to online records.

Pedestrian killed in Boulder freeway hit-and-run crash

The crash happened in the northbound lanes of the Boulder Expressway just south of Whitney Avenue around 6:15 p.m. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said the driver who struck the pedestrian left the scene.

Police said the pedestrian was struck in a lane near Whitney Avenue while trying to cross Boulder. The person was not in the crosswalk. The identity of the pedestrian has not been released.

Johnson made his first court appearance Saturday morning. Johnson has 13 pending traffic cases in Las Vegas Justice Court, five cases in North Las Vegas Municipal Court and one case in Henderson Municipal Court.

According to court records, Johnson worked as a behavioral therapist at Proud Moments, working with children with autism. His second job was as a behavioral therapist, working with children on the autism spectrum.

The judge set bail at $100,000. If released on bail, Johnson will be subject to electronic monitoring and banned from operating a motor vehicle.

Johnson is scheduled to return to court at 8 a.m. Jan. 6 in Department 9.
