Lamine Yamal reveals what Barcelona are aiming for this season: ‘We will try to…’

Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal was one of the standouts at the recent World Sports Awards, being recognized for his outstanding performances over the past year.

While accepting the award, the young winger also spoke about Barcelona’s goals for the rest of the season.

As the campaign enters a critical stage, Yamal stressed that the team needs the best talent to step up and deliver on their promises.

“Now comes the big moment and that’s when the good players in our team have to step up. I’m enjoying this moment and I’ll strive for more.” he told Mundo Deportivo.

Barcelona currently top the La Liga table, but Yamal is fully aware that the title race is far from over.

Reflecting on the league’s challenges, he explained the reality of the situation. “It’s the most difficult race because it’s the longest.

“Nothing is decided until the end, just like last year we have to fight until the end, win points and not lose any games because they are all important and hopefully we can do that.”

The youngster also spoke about Barcelona’s Champions League ambitions.

The competition remains a major target for the club after last season’s humiliating extra-time defeat to Inter Milan in the semi-finals.

“It’s different. The position doesn’t mean anything. It just allows us to rest more. No matter who the opponent is, we will go all out to win.” he said.

When the conversation turned to his personal statistics, Yamal made it clear that scoring goals was not his main concern.

Explaining his point of view, he said: “My game is not based on that.

“Definitely, it’s controversial because when I’m playing well, I’m not scoring, and when I’m scoring, I’m not playing well, but I want to play well and win for the team and keep it that way.” he said.

personal honor

Finally, the Barcelona forward touched upon the subject of individual awards.

Despite finishing second in the 2025 Ballon d’Or, he insists the honors are not something he spends his time thinking about.

“I don’t think about it. This award, if you think about it, you don’t get the answer. It depends on what you win, how you play, and who votes.

“It’s not determined by your performance. I just want to enjoy myself and win with Barca and the national team.” he concluded.
