Lakers’ ‘make-up’ game following NBA Cup quarterfinal loss is set

The Los Angeles Lakers are looking to pull off a dominant win in their quarterfinal game against the San Antonio Spurs at Emirates Arena on Wednesday. Although the Spurs lost superstar center Victor Vumbanyama, they defeated the Lakers 132-119 and produced an impressive display of sustained fast-break basketball.

At this point, the Lakers have withdrawn from the NBA Cup competition. Earlier Wednesday, the Phoenix Suns, who were missing four-time All-Star guard Devin Booker, were electrocuted 138-89 by the defending world champion Oklahoma City Thunder. The Spurs and Thunder will travel to Las Vegas for a semifinal matchup, with the winner of that game facing the winner of the Eastern Conference semifinals, which will feature the New York Knicks and Orlando Magic.

At the same time, it is reported that the Lakers will play a “make-up game” against the Suns on the road this Sunday (December 14). They will rest before the start of the game.

Just a week ago, the Suns defeated the Lakers 125-108, and they performed in a similar manner to the Spurs on Wednesday. They scored 28 fast-break points to Los Angeles’ two and committed 22 turnovers. Los Angeles committed 11 turnovers on Wednesday.

The Lakers currently have an overall record of 17 wins and 7 losses. With Wednesday’s loss, they have slipped to fourth place in the Western Conference. They are half a game behind the second-place Denver Nuggets, a team they don’t face until January 20th.
