After the Los Angeles Lakers play their final playoff game this spring, they will begin preparing in earnest for the upcoming NBA draft. Unlike last year, they didn’t control their first-round pick in 2019 due to the Anthony Davis trade, but they did have their first-round pick.
After breaking some ties in the league’s lottery, the Lakers will select player No. 25 this June. They achieved the same 53-29 record as the New York Knicks in the regular season, but they lost in the tiebreaker to the New York Knicks, who held the No. 24 pick.
It remains to be seen what type of player Los Angeles will target with this pick, or if the team will consider packaging it in a trade in order to upgrade its roster by bringing back a player who can help now.

The Lakers are expected to pursue Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason, according to multiple reports. Acquiring him would almost certainly cost Los Angeles this year’s No. 25 overall pick.
