It seems like it happened yesterday. Then again, that was yesterday, or, depending on when you read this, maybe two days ago, but life has been the same as it has been for nearly twenty years. John Harbaugh is still the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens.
Then, something happened. In an act that was both unexpected and surprising, he was given a walking permit. Baltimore has a head coaching vacancy for the first time since he was hired in January 2008.

Whoever Baltimore chooses to hire will become the fourth head coach in Ravens history. Ted Marchibroda and Brian Billick are the other two. There are at least two names that could emerge as candidates for the organization.
One of those names belongs to Kliff Kingsbury. Don’t you know? Kingsbury contacted Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken after being fired by the Arizona Cardinals and spending one year with the USC Trojans.
After accepting the job As a Washington Commander, Kingsbury cited Monken as one of the people who helped him reignite his passion for the professional game..
This does raise a question. Obviously, these conversations have just begun, which means we’re grasping at straws, but we can say that Kliff Kingsbury has definitely sparked their interest. Once again, he’s arguably one of the top 10 candidates to fill the Ravens’ head coaching vacancy.

There are reports that Ravens leadership wants Todd Monken gone. They said he was one of the pressure points that led to Harbaugh’s firing. What if Kingsbury wanted him around? Will Monken be asked to stay, or will that be reason to remove Kingsbury’s name from the list of possible candidates? This is where things get complicated.
The Ravens don’t just have to get rid of John Harbaugh. They are resetting some of the structures that have helped define the organization for nearly two decades.
Each candidate’s plan and resume will be evaluated. They will also be judged on their vision. This upcoming hire will tell us more than just who will play on Sunday. It will tell us how the Ravens envision success in the post-Harbaugh era.
Now, answer this question. When you and the Ravens think about that paradigm thing, do you think about Kliff Kingsbury? Do you and the Ravens believe Kingsbury can win a Super Bowl? Let us not forget. That’s why new people will be hired. That’s why Harbaugh is no longer the head coach of this team.
