The Denver Broncos’ win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas night put them on track to clinch the AFC West and AFC’s top seed.

But before the game began, Kirk Herbstreit, who hosts the game for Amazon Prime with Al Michaels, brought his dog Peter to Broncos quarterback Bo Nix. This would have been a normal greeting if Nicks wasn’t afraid of dogs.
Herbstreit shared Peter and Nix’s interaction on Twitter/X, where in addition to Jarrett Stidham’s story, Nix revealed why he’s afraid of dogs.

“He hated dogs, he was afraid of them,” Herbstreit said of Nix. Stidham expanded on some of Nix’s fears and how it’s not just one type of dog, but all dogs.
“When we pulled up, there was a big (expletive), mean dog,” Stidham said. “Sam said, ‘Beau, that’s the dog you need to be afraid of,’ and (Beau) said, ‘No, they’re all the same.'”

No matter what the dog was, Nix was clearly afraid of them. When asked why, Nix explained that he was attacked by a dog as a child and has been afraid of dogs ever since.
When Herbstreit walked up to Nix with his dog, Nix’s comments gave us more insight into how scared he is of dogs.

“My wife would be shocked,” Nix said while petting Herbsreits’ dog. “If I could change it, if I could change one thing, I would.”
Nix acknowledged his fear and wanted to change it, but since his fear stemmed from childhood, overcoming it wasn’t easy.

Because of this childhood incident, and the fact that Nix didn’t grow up around dogs, his fear of “man’s best friend” didn’t go away.
The Broncos quarterback is afraid of dogs, but he’s not so scared that he can’t be around them, as evidenced by his brief interaction with Herbstreit’s dog Peter before the Christmas Eve game.
