Buckingham Palace said the king had made clear he was “deeply concerned” by allegations about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s behavior and would “stand ready to support” police if they were approached about the allegations.
Thames Valley Police said it was assessing claims that Andrew shared confidential reports with convicted pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein while he was a trade envoy.
A renewed crisis has engulfed the monarchy and Westminster.
The situation has shown few signs of abating since U.S. authorities recently released millions of documents related to Epstein.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “The King has made clear through his words and unprecedented actions his deep concern about the emerging allegations about Mr Mountbatten-Windsor’s behaviour.
“While the specific request in question is for Mr Mountbatten-Windsor to address, we stand ready to support Thames Valley Police should they contact us, as you would expect.
“As stated previously, His Majesty has always had, and still has, sympathy for victims of any form of abuse.”

Thames Valley Police have so far not approached the palace over claims that Andrew shared confidential reports from his role as UK trade envoy with Epstein.
The king was grilled again over Andrew’s ties to Epstein during a visit to Lancashire on Monday.
One man shouted to Charles as he met well-wishers at Clitheroe train station in Lancashire: “How long have you known about Andrew and Epstein?”
Charles didn’t appear to react, and the crowd booed the question.
Meanwhile, the Prince and Princess of Wales spoke publicly about the Epstein scandal for the first time on Monday.
William and Kate said they were “deeply concerned by the continuing revelations” and that their thoughts “remain focused on the victims”.
A Kensington Palace spokesman said: “I can confirm that the Prince and Princess of Wales are deeply concerned by the ongoing revelations.
“Their thoughts are still focused on the victim.”
The documents sparked accusations against William’s uncle Andrew and led to a police investigation into alleged misconduct in public office by Lord Peter Mandelson.
They include pedophile Epstein sending a second woman to Britain to have sex with Andrew, and the former prince and Epstein procuring a threesome with an exotic dancer at Epstein’s home in Florida.
