Khar Gymkhana on Wednesday congratulated its long-time member and former Mumbai cricketer Amol Muzumdar for his performance as head coach of the Indian women’s cricket team when they won the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup title in November last year.
The celebration ceremony was held at the central lawn of Khar Gymkhana. The club recognized Muzumdar’s contribution to Indian cricket, both as a former domestic batsman and as a coach who led the Indian women’s team to their first World Cup title. Muzumdar has been associated with the club for more than four decades, first as a young player and later as coach.
Khar Gymkhana Chairman Gaurav Kapadia spoke at the event and highlighted Muzumdar’s cricketing career.
“Amol Muzumdar’s journey is one of excellence, perseverance and unwavering commitment to the game. From becoming one of Mumbai’s most accomplished batsmen to assuming coaching responsibilities at the highest level, he has continued to raise the bar at every stage of his cricketing career,” Kapadia said.
“Leading the Indian women’s team to the World Cup title is a landmark achievement, not just for Amol personally but for the entire Indian cricket fraternity. Khar Gymkhana is extremely proud to be recognized for an achievement that will be remembered in the history of Indian cricket,” he added.
While accepting the honour, Muzumdar said the recognition from the club means a lot to him.
“I have a long-standing association with Khar Gymkhana and I spent hours and days not only playing cricket but also tennis. I hung up my boots with this club in 2014 – it is a humbling experience to be back here. Thanks for the congratulations and friendships I have built here during my career!” said Muzumdar.
He also talked about India winning the World Cup.
“India’s World Cup victory was the result of collective belief and hard work. The players and support staff believed in the process and dedicated themselves to the cause and I am grateful to be a part of the journey. Sharing this moment with my Khar Gymkhana family makes it even more special,” he said.
