It’s official: One of the Broncos’ top running back options entering free agency is now off the market. The New York Jets placed the non-exclusive franchise tag worth $14.29 million on running back Brees Hall on Tuesday morning, which is seen as a placeholder for completing a long-term deal. If the Jets can’t agree on a new contract by July 15, Hall will play under that tag through 2026.
The non-exclusive franchise tag means the team can negotiate with Hall and his agent, but the team will give up two first-round picks if they decide to sign Hall. It’s unlikely Denver (or any other team) would be willing to pay that much for a running back.
Elsewhere on the running back front, the Hall news is good news for the biggest name in this year’s running back cycle, Super Bowl LX MVP Kenneth Walker. The Seattle Seahawks have placed no tag on Walker, making him an unrestricted free agent next week.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport predicts the running back market will be north of $8 million per year, which is what former Broncos running back Javonte Williams set when he re-signed with the Dallas Cowboys. Rapoport also mentioned Denver as one of the teams looking to address their running back issues before the NFL Draft.
Denver now appears to be diving headfirst into the hottest running back market in years. When the NFL’s free agent negotiating window opens on March 9, will they target a Super Bowl MVP? Check back next week.
