That’s because the Argentinian has become the aforementioned Barcelona’s main target.

Camp Nou hierarchy are thought to have earmarked Alvarez as the ideal player as they search for a long-term replacement for the departing Robert Lewandowski.

Speaking in an interview with Marca (quoted by sports daily) This week, the subject of alleged interest from Barcelona and other leading European clubs has therefore once again turned to the 25-year-old himself.

Alvarez used the opportunity to downplay the controversy surrounding his name:

“Let’s see, it doesn’t bother me. I try not to look too much, but I know people are talking about it. People talk about it on social networks. I think it’s more about what is said outside than what actually happens. I’m very focused on this season, on our future with Atletico Madrid. So it’s nothing, I try to distract myself, think about myself, continue to grow as a player and win.”
