Manchester United are keen to recruit a new left-winger this summer, with all signs pointing towards Leipzig youngster Jan Diomande.
In a recent press conference, Michael Carrick revealed that the club could use some reinforcements on the wings, particularly on the left.

United have plenty of options in attack, but none are considered tailor-made for a left-wing role.
Amad Diallo and Brian Mbemo are both left-footed, so they naturally prefer to play as inside wingers on the right wing and cut into the centre. As for Matheus Cunha, his technical attributes make him more suited to a central role rather than a broad one.
Leipzig youngster Jan Diomande tops Manchester United wish list
Football journalist Ben Jacobs revealed during his latest appearance in the stands that Manchester United are indeed expected to make a “big move” for a left-winger this summer.
The Red Devils have been linked with Diomande on a number of occasions in recent months, with transfer market experts confirming the youngster as one of the main names on their shortlist and treating him as “one to watch”.

Jacobs added that Leipzig’s asking price of €100m had already turned off many suitors, but some still hoped the valuation would drop before the start of the summer.
Nonetheless, United’s head of recruitment Christopher Vivell, a former employee of the Bundesliga club, had used his connections to help the club sign Benjamin Sesko last summer.
Why Diomande is Manchester United’s top target
The Ivorian began his career in the United States before moving to Europe via Leganes in January 2025. After a brief spell in Spain, he moved to Leipzig for €20 million, instantly cementing himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most devastating wingers.

“He’s unbelievable. When you put him in a one-on-one situation, you know he’s going to win the duel.” Diomande’s teammate Yan Ouedraogo said.
The 19-year-old has a good relationship with Amad, having played alongside the Manchester United star at the recent Africa Cup of Nations for Ivory Coast.
All in all, United and Diomande appear to be a match made in heaven, but the Red Devils will have to act quickly and decisively to beat their rivals, which include other European giants such as Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
In this regard, securing Champions League qualification for next season could be a key factor in their pursuit of finances and increased appeal.
