Joshua Jefferson leads No. 4 Iowa State back from 13-point deficit in 66-62 win over Iowa

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Joshua Jefferson scored 24 points and No. 4 Iowa State overcame a 13-point deficit to stay unbeaten with a 66-62 victory over Iowa State on Thursday night.

The Cyclones (10-0), who led the nation in field goal percentage after defeating then-No. 1 team by 23 points. 1. Purdue, sluggish in early trade. But a 19-0 run in the first half gave them the lead and withstood a run by Iowa State (8-2) to win its third straight CyHawk series.

Tamin Lipsey had 14 points and four assists, and Milan Momchilovic scored eight of his 10 points in the second half.

Tavion Banks scored 14 points for the Hawkeyes, while Bennett Stirtz and Cam Manyawu each scored 10 points.

Iowa, trying to beat its top-ranked opponent in five seasons, made 5 of 7 3-pointers in the half and shot 64 percent from the field to lead 33-25. It was the fewest points the Cyclones have scored in a first half this season.

But the Hawkeyes were held scoreless for more than six minutes before and after halftime, and Momchilovic’s 3-pointer from the wing gave the Cyclones a 10-point lead with 12 minutes left.

Iowa scored eight straight points to bring the score to 47-45 and narrowed the gap with 1:38 left in the game. With 9.1 seconds left in the game, Jefferson made two free throws to chase the score to 4 points.

Iowa State leads the all-time series 48-31.
