The 42-year-old, who became Tottenham Hotspur’s assistant manager in January, has much-needed managerial experience after two spells in charge of Ajax. He serves as interim head coach of the Eredivisie club during the second half of the 2022-23 season before becoming permanent head coach ahead of the 2025-26 season. Heitinga was sacked in November and returned to the Premier League to work with Tottenham Hotspur, having served as an assistant coach at West Ham United in 2023-24 and at Liverpool last season.

Whether he gets the job remains to be seen, with Spurs expected to make a temporary appointment until the end of the season.
