The Giants just announced John Harbaugh’s new coaching staff, but one of the new coaches has changed gears and found another job.
Harbaugh will now look for another new assistant defensive line coach after Matt Robinson changed his mind and opted for a better position as safeties coach in Las Vegas. The team even has a page dedicated to Robinson on their website, but if you click on it now, you’ll just see a blank page.
Harbaugh had Robinson on his staff the past five seasons in Baltimore and as his outside linebackers coach the past two seasons. Having an assistant defensive line coach seems a bit like a demotion. So, a full-time coaching position looks better.

Coming to Las Vegas, Robinson is joined by another familiar face. In 2022, he and the Raiders’ new DC Rob Leonard will coach together in Baltimore. Leonard served as outside linebackers coach that season and Robinson served as defensive quality control coach.
It may seem odd to hire a linebackers/defensive line coach as the safeties coach, but Robinson spent his first four seasons as a defensive back before taking the position at linebacker as a fifth-year senior at Maryland.
