Barcelona are laying the foundations for a future without Robert Lewandowski, with the club’s long-term plans starting to take shape.
As previously reported, one name continues to stand out: Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez.

The idea has now gained new weight following comments from Enrique Masip, a member of Barcelona’s sports committee and a trusted advisor to president Joan Laporta.
Masip spoke not only about Alvarez’s profile as a forward, but also about Barcelona’s financial situation and whether the club can actually pull off such a move in the near future.
What did he say?
When asked directly whether Alvarez would be the ideal replacement for Lewandowski at Barcelona, Masip gave a very clear assessment.
He said without hesitation “I would say yes, he is a great player, a player with incredible qualities and he had a great season at Atletico.

“He’s one of the greatest strikers in the world, that’s for sure,” he pointed out.
It’s worth noting that admiration alone won’t sign players at Barcelona. Financial Fair Play restrictions for clubs remain a major obstacle.

Barcelona Currently not operating under the 1/1 rule, which means any major transfers will require careful planning, departures and wage adjustments.
Masip is fully aware of these concerns and addressed them directly when asked whether Barcelona could afford a transfer of this magnitude.
In response, he pointed to the confidence within the club and the work that has been done behind the scenes. Speaking about Laporta’s stance, Masip recalled:

“The president said that Barca must always be able to sign any player it deems necessary to strengthen the squad.
“I have no doubt that will be the case after we go through the economic plan and especially the team issues and the salary balance between young players and veterans.”
Instead of backing down, Masip only strengthened his optimism.
He further insisted that “If that happens, Barca can deal with it, I have no doubt that it will.”
