The light heavyweight division is moving on from the “Poatan” era.
On Friday, the UFC announced a major update for the UFC 327 fight card via social media. First and foremost, current light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira has officially vacated his 205-pound title ahead of his highly anticipated move to heavyweight. With the open belt now under his belt, former kingpin Jiri Prochazka will once again challenge for the gold, taking on surging knockout artist Carlos Ulberg to decide the future of the division.
Prochazka fought twice in 2025, defeating Jamahal Hill and Khalil Rountree via knockout in the Match of the Year (watch here). The only man to beat the ‘Pop’ in the last 10 years was Pereira, so the Brazilian’s departure is a huge opportunity for the fans-favorite finisher. Ullberg, meanwhile, hasn’t lost a fight since March 2021. The kickboxer is riding an eight-fight winning streak against the likes of Jan Blachowicz and Dominic Reyes as he makes his first shot at the title, and the two strikers’ clash should make for an exciting main event.

In addition to the 205-pound title fight, the UFC also announced two major additions to the UFC 327 card. Veteran 155-pound contender Beneil Dariush will try to bounce back from a tough loss to Benoit Saint Denis with a victory over rising lightweight star Manuel Torres, a lightweight superstar with a thunderous hand. This is a potential changing of the guard, as Dariusz will either rock the boat or drop out of the top 15 entirely after years at lightweight.
Finally, featherweight standout Patricio Pitbull takes on Aaron Pico in the “preliminaries.” Pitbull is a late-career bantamweight champion, but his recent win over Dan Ige proved the Brazilian great still has something left in the tank. Instead, Pico is still looking for his first UFC win. The 29-year-old phenom dove headfirst into the depths of UFC competition in his debut against Lerone Murphy, but the move backfired when Pico ran straight into one of the most ferocious spinning elbows of the year.
All in all, UFC 327 looks to be one of the best cards of 2026 so far! Do you have any predictions about how these new matchups will play out?
