This week, Chiefs Wire’s Ed Easton Jr. interviews retired four-time NFL Pro Bowl quarterback Jeff Garcia.
In an interview with Little Easton, Garcia discussed his partnership with Beyond the Game Health, an organization dedicated to empowering youth in the community. He also recalled Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid’s time with the Philadelphia Eagles.

“Andy (Reed) had a great system. I really liked how Andy ran the West Coast offense. Bill Walsh’s West Coast offense was the run game, the short passing game, quick slants, receivers’ picks, getting the running backs involved in swings and flats, those types of stretches,” Garcia said. “And Andy took it a step further and created down, The passing game downfield. He adds to the explosive play downfield. Obviously, you have to have some receivers that can go over the top and he does a great job of creating big, explosive plays and when I step in, he gives Donovan (McNabb) or me an opportunity to throw the ball downfield.”
During his time with the Eagles, Garcia served as a backup, but when he started in place of the injured Donovan McNabb late in the 2006 season, Philadelphia made the playoffs. He earned his second career playoff victory, throwing for 153 yards and a touchdown in a 23-20 wild-card victory over the New York Giants.
“Coach Reed has a cool, calm style. He’s never an emotional roller coaster and is very smart. Marty Morningweg was the offensive coordinator when I was there,” Garcia said. “I had him in San Francisco before my first few years there, so was familiar with the offense. The way their offense is on the field, though, they’re definitely learning and growing. I like that about Coach Reed.”
