James Reimer makes 16 saves as Senators blank Canucks 2-0

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — James Reimer blocked 16 shots for the first time this season and 32nd of his career, and the Ottawa Senators beat the Vancouver Canucks 2-0 on Monday night.

Ridley Gregg scored for Ottawa in the second period and Brady Tkachuk added an empty-netter with 1:20 left to extend his point streak to seven games – six of which came after he helped the U.S. win Olympic gold in Milan.

Kevin Lankinen made 22 saves for Vancouver to open an eight-game homestand.

Ottawa has scored in seven straight games (5-0-2) and 11 of 12 games (9-1-2) in pursuit of an Eastern Conference wild-card spot.

Gregg received a pass from Sean Pinto at the bottom of the faceoff circle, moved the puck to his forehand and fired a shot past Lankinen midway through the second period.

The Canucks questioned the play, arguing Pinto passed the ball with his hands before the goal, but upheld the decision after a video review.

Reimer made his first start since February 5, improving to 4 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss this season, and was shutout for the first time since April 8, 2025 in Toronto. The 37-year-old signed with Ottawa as a free agent on January 12.

Tim Stutzle assisted on Tkachuk’s goal, extending his scoring streak to 13 games (eight goals, nine assists).

Ottawa defenseman Jake Sanderson missed Saturday’s win over Seattle with an upper-body injury. Coach Travis Green said the 23-year-old is “week in and week out.”
