Despite concerns from some fans, the New York Knicks made minimal moves at the trade deadline. However, they did make one impactful move, trading for Jose Alvarado with the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Knicks already have good depth at the point guard position, with Miles McBride and Tyler Kollek behind Brunson in the rotation. Now, they have Alvarado to replace McBride, who is out with a long-term injury.
Brunson appreciates Alvarado’s impact
NBA fans have become accustomed to seeing Alvarado become trouble for Pelicans opponents over the years. He is one of the most impressive defenders at the point guard position. Alvarado is not a big physical player, but he always works hard.
That goes a long way because he’s a smart defender, but he’s also an underrated offensive player. He proved that in his Knicks debut Sunday against the Boston Celtics. He had 12 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.

Alvarado is one of the best teammates anyone could have, which is why Josh Hart is a big fan of his as well. They played together in New Orleans and now they’re bringing chaotic energy to a championship-contending team.
Brunson himself appreciates what he sees from Alvarado. They were caught on camera talking to each other before the game, which translated well to the game itself.
“He was great. The impact he had on the game right away was awesome. That’s what we needed. It was great to see him in blue and orange,” Brunson said of Alvarado’s impact.

As long as Alvarado continues to be a great teammate, he will have a role on the team. Head coach Mike Brown seemed to appreciate him and gave him some good playing time.
Alvarado will be a great contributor to the Knicks in the long run. It’s going to be a challenging road for the Knicks, but it could be made easier with the pesky point guard’s influence.
