Sometimes, if you’re a college football fan, it’s unwise to get upset or angry when a player enters the transfer portal. Because the door won’t close until it’s closed.
One of the surprising transfer portal entries this cycle was Michigan football right guard Jake Guarnera, who said during Cheez-It Citrus Bowl preparations that he’s excited about Kyle Whittingham and the new era in the maize and blue. However, with the Wolverines taking a few days to get new offensive line coach Jim Hardin in place, Guanella decided to test the waters outside of Ann Arbor.

However, on Tuesday, Guanella announced that he will indeed be spending his third season with the Michigan football team.
Guarnera drew attention from a few SEC schools but ultimately chose to stay with the program that originally recruited him.
The redshirt freshman wasn’t originally expected to be a starter in 2025, but he got his first meaningful shot in Week 2 against Oklahoma State when Brady Norton was sidelined with an injury. He adapted quickly and became one of the best offensive linemen in the state of Michigan. Even after Norton returned to full health, he started every remaining game.
Guanella is the fourth offensive lineman to announce he will return to Michigan football next season, joining Evan Link, Blake Frazier and Andrew Babalola. He is also the second player to exit the transfer portal so far, with cornerback Zeke Berry announcing that he too has exited the transfer portal.
