“We know that,” Bills coach Sean McDermott said. “With the playoff situation this week, it’s going to be the best we can do. We respect James and we expect the same from James.”
The Bills will face a New York Jets defense on Sunday that ranks 27th in the league in rushing defense. Cook rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns in the first game of the season.
Buffalo has already clinched a wild-card playoff spot and can’t advance higher than the AFC’s fifth seed, so head coach Sean McDermott may choose to rest some starters.

The Colts play Sunday at 1 p.m. and the Bills don’t play until 4:25 p.m., so Cook will know how many yards he needs to pass Taylor for the season rushing lead.
Cook enjoyed a veteran’s rest day Thursday and participated in full practice Friday. He was not listed on the final injury report.
“We want to win games, that’s No. 1,” Bills head coach Sean McDermott said when asked about resting some of his best players. “From here, it’s about how we approach the overall situation of the week.”
Cook has been extremely healthy throughout his four-year career. He only missed one game, on October 14, 2024, due to a toe injury.
