IPL 2026: Five pacers in race as KKR look for Harshit Rana replacement

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have been forced to take emergency action ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season after promising pacer Harshit Rana suffered a major blow. With their bowling attack suddenly weakening, the team has turned to Eden Gardens for mid-pre-season trials to find suitable replacements.

His absence left a huge gap in the power play and death overs, forcing the team management to rethink their tempo mix in the days leading up to the tournament.

Among them, Navdeep Saini has attracted attention for his raw pace and bounce, while Akash Madhwal has also emerged as a strong contender due to his impactful performances for Mumbai Indians in the previous IPL seasons. Meanwhile, Simarjeet Singh, who has played for the teams Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, took 11 wickets in 14 IPL games. Kerala’s medium-pacer duo of Warrier and Asif also featured in the trials. Sunil Kumar, who hails from Jammu and Kashmir, adds an element of intrigue. KKR’s bowling worries growing

KKR’s concerns are not limited to just one injury. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will miss IPL 2026 as Akash Deep fails to recover from a stress injury in his lower back in time. The team has waived Mustafizur Rahman and brought in Blessed Muzarabani as his replacement. While Muzarabani is a strong addition, the tall Zimbabwe pacer has limited experience in the IPL. However, there is some positive news for KKR fans. Sri Lankan speedster Matheesha Pathirana is reportedly close to making a full recovery after sustaining an injury.
