Idah ‘needs love’ to thrive at Swansea

Vitor Matos says Adam Ida “needs love” if he is to thrive at Swansea City and hopes the striker’s late goal against Wrexham will prove to be a pivotal moment in his time at the Championship club.

Ida scored the winning goal in the 90th minute to give Swansea a dramatic victory in their first league meeting with Wrexham in 22 years.

The goal was the result of an inexplicable double fault by Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, whose error allowed Ida to fire the ball into the net from a yard out.

This is Ida’s third goal in 20 appearances for Swansea (including seven starts) since joining from Celtic for £6 million.

The 24-year-old celebrated with a fist pump in front of the home fans long after the final whistle, with Matos believing the goal could be crucial.

“He’s a very good kid who needs love and needs to feel everyone’s support,” the Swansea manager said.

“He knows he has that quality within the club. He needs to have that connection with the fans.

“I think [the Wrexham game] That’s important and we’re excited to see what he brings to the table in the future. “

Swansea came from behind to beat the Red Dragons after Cameron Burgess scored an early own goal.

The Swans leveled with 20 minutes to go when Zan Vipotnik’s deflected shot went wide before Idah capitalized on Okonkwo’s roaring chance.

“The team is high on the field. That happens sometimes,” Matos added.

“More importantly, you’re in the right position to get rewarded, and Adam did that.

“I think that’s a big goal for Adam as well, giving him the confidence to come off the bench and make an impact, so [I am] Really happy for him and happy for us. “
