ICE agents waiting near St. Louis Park daycare confronted by parent

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents encountered a parent outside a St. Louis Park daycare on Friday morning.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity to protect the daycare center’s privacy, said two unmarked ICE vehicles were parked “across the street from our parking lot and playground” as parents dropped off their children around 9 a.m.

When a parent confronted them, sources said the masked agents threatened him with pepper spray.

“They threatened to beat him, but they left the area shortly after St. Louis Park police arrived,” a source said, noting that officers rushed to the scene and remained outside the day care center for about an hour.

Bring Me The News has reached out to the St. Louis Park Police Department for comment.

There are increasing reports of federal immigration agents operating near or at schools and child care centers.

Earlier this week, KARE 11 spoke with officials at two Spanish immersion day care centers in the Twin Cities where multiple employees were detained by ICE last week, including one employee who was detained in the day care parking lot.

“In both cases, the centers said the workers were legally authorized to work in the United States,” KARE 11 reported.

The parent of a student in the Robbinsdale School District was arrested by federal agents Wednesday while waiting at a bus stop in Crystal. Last week, Border Patrol agents descended into chaos on the campus of Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis, just hours after an ICE agent fatally shot 37-year-old Renee Good.

Hundreds of masked federal agents roamed the Twin Cities in unmarked vehicles, causing mass absences at schools. Many districts have launched virtual learning opportunities for students and families who are afraid of going to school.

Minneapolis Public Schools, St. Paul Public Schools, Ridgefield Public Schools and District 196, which represents Apple Valley, Eagan and Rosemount, have all launched temporary online classes for students.
