ICC announces T20 World Cup Player of the Tournament nominees: Check out who made the list

India opener Sanju Samson is among eight players nominated for the Player of the Match award for the T20 World Cup, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Friday.

Samson, who missed the early games, was impressed with back-to-back man-of-the-match performances.

He scored 89 off 42 balls in the semi-final against England, helping India win by seven runs, after scoring 97 off 50 balls in the quarter-final against West Indies. He has scored 232 points in four games so far with an average of 77.33 and a strike rate of 201.73.

Other nominees are:

  • England all-rounder Will Jacks

  • Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan

  • South African pacer Lungi Ngidi

  • South Africa captain Aiden Markram

  • New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra

  • New Zealand batsman Tim Seifert

  • American bowler Shadley Van Schalkewijk

Will Jacks played a key role in England winning six of their eight matches, scoring 226 runs and taking nine wickets, winning four Man of the Match awards.

Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan scored 383 runs in 6 innings, including two centuries, the highest score by any player in a single T20 World Cup.

Lungi Ngidi took 12 wickets in 7 matches for South Africa while captain Aiden Markram scored 286 runs in 8 matches.

Rachin Ravindra contributed with both bat and ball, scoring 128 runs and taking 11 wickets, while Tim Seifert scored 274 runs for New Zealand, including eight fifties.

Despite Team USA’s early exit, Shadley van Schalkewijk took 13 wickets in four games.

India will face New Zealand in the final in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
