Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky posted on social media on Sunday morning that “hundreds of thousands” of Ukrainians were without power in multiple regions after Russian missiles and drones attacked the country’s energy infrastructure.
“Since yesterday, all our ministries have been working to restore electricity, heat and water supplies to various regions following Russia’s attacks on energy infrastructure,” the president said. “The situation remains complex – hundreds of thousands of households in the Nikolaev, Odessa, Kherson, Chernihiv, Donetsk, Sumy and Dnipro regions remain without power.”
Russia’s nighttime attacks in recent months have focused on energy and other critical infrastructure targets, coinciding with the onset of winter, according to Ukrainian officials.
“Russia is prolonging the war and wants to cause as much harm as possible to our people,” Zelensky added. He reported that Russia had launched more than 1,500 drones, about 900 aerial bombs and 46 missiles into Ukraine in the past week.

The attacks continued overnight and into Sunday. The Ukrainian Air Force stated that Russia launched a missile and 138 drones towards the country overnight, of which 110 drones were shot down or suppressed. The air force said the missile and 10 attack drones struck six locations.
Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry said Russian forces shot down at least 141 Ukrainian drones overnight into Sunday morning. Moscow’s military also shot down 143 drones during Saturday, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
Zelensky said Ukrainian negotiators were preparing for another week of meetings with U.S. and European representatives to discuss the framework of a possible peace deal to end Russia’s sweeping invasion.
“Ukraine needs a decent peace and we are ready to work as constructively as possible,” the president said in a social media post on Sunday. “These days will be full of diplomacy. It is very important that it delivers results. I rely on the support of our partners.”

Zelensky said in a later social media post that he had arrived in Berlin for planned talks. “Today we plan to hold a meeting with the U.S. negotiating team,” he wrote.
“Our focus is on how to reliably guarantee Ukraine’s security so that the experience of the Budapest Memorandum and the Russian invasion is not repeated,” Zelensky added. “We count on constructive negotiations.”
