Many of us have been in a situation where someone sent us a gift card as a gift, but we couldn’t find anything useful in that particular store. We then end up buying something out of desperation, or the card gathers dust until the expiration date arrives and it ends up in the trash. This isn’t always the case, as there are several ways to redeem gift cards for cash.
Things to remember before selling gift cards
Before we get into the details and tell you how to sell unused gift cards, there are a few things to remember.
- If you try to sell gift cards, there’s always a chance of being scammed, so proceed with caution.
- Please make sure not to send the card without receiving payment. If it’s a gift card from any particular store, make sure you meet with the person you’re selling it to at that store and verify that the card is valid before completing the transaction.
- Similar precautions should be taken before selling electronic gift certificates.
- If you sell through a third-party website, be sure to read all terms and conditions (including buyer protection programs) to avoid being scammed.
- technology shout is not responsible for any issues that may arise when you try to sell your unused gift cards for cash. Proceed at your own risk.
How to sell unused gift cards online in India
There are some websites in India that allow you to sell unused gift cards. The problem is, most of these are marketplaces, so there’s no guarantee you’ll find a buyer. There is a website that allows you to sell gift cards directly, but it only pays about 35% of the card’s value, which is very low. Here are the websites that allow you to sell gift cards online in India.
Serebrat
Sellebrate allows you to sell gift cards directly to companies for cash. Unlike other gift card exchange platforms we’ve come across, Sellebrate claims to fund your gift cards instead of listing them on its marketplace and requiring you to wait for a buyer. The flip side is that it offers very low rates on gift cards – we only got about 35% of the gift card value.
can be sold
CanSell is a gift card marketplace where the company participates as a mediator to ensure a transaction is secure in case something goes wrong. There are two types of transactions on CalSell: free and secure. Free is a riskier path, and CanSell offers little to no help. If you choose to trade securely, the company essentially acts as an escrow service and helps mediate disputes (if any), taking 5% of the sale price.
Nafa
Nafa is another marketplace that sells gift cards. Your gift cards can be listed and sold to other Nafa users on this site, which applies a flat 5% discount to the sale price of each gift card. The website has physical cards and e-gift cards, and claims that physical cards will be mailed to buyers within 7 days of purchase.
Zingoy
Zingoy is also a marketplace where you can sell unused gift cards. The site charges a small fee for each gift card sold, which varies by brand.
Classified advertising website
You can always try selling your gift cards through classified sites like Quikr or OLX. It is important to remain vigilant and take as many precautions as possible to prevent fraud and ensure your safety. Some Indian forums have trading sub-forums where you can sell certain gift cards. For example, IndianVideoGamer allows you to sell physical gift cards related to games (such as PlayStation Plus cards).
social media sites
You can also try your luck on your favorite social media sites. Some of them have communities that allow you to sell or exchange gift cards. For example, Reddit’s GiftCardExchange community allows people to exchange gift cards for cash or other gift cards. Indian gift cards are less in demand, but you can try your luck in local social media groups.
