How to Customise the Safari Start Page in macOS Big Sur

One of the best new Safari features in macOS Big Sur is the ability to customize the start page in Safari. This is a small but useful addition to the default web browser on macOS, which is becoming increasingly privacy-focused. On the start page, you can see all your bookmarks, frequently visited sites, and more. You can now decide which elements appear on this page and even add a beautiful wallpaper to the background. Here’s how you can do it.

  1. Open Safari on your Mac.
  2. In the top menu bar, go to bookmark then click Show start page.
  3. You will now see the start page in Safari. In the lower right corner you will find settings icon. Click this button.
  4. You can now choose how your start page looks. There are six options here – Favorites, Frequently Visited, Privacy Report, Siri Suggestions, Reading List, and Background Image.
  5. Uncheck Content you don’t want to appear on your start page. We don’t need the list of frequently visited sites, so we removed it, but you can choose different options based on your preferences.
  6. Finally, let’s add a nice background image here. directly below background image Option In the start page settings (mentioned in step 3), you will see a box with a plus icon. If you want to add your own wallpaper click on it plus icon and add any image.
  7. If you want to choose Apple’s background image, scroll right in the Background Image section of the Safari start page settings. Here you will find some beautiful wallpapers and you can choose the one you like.
