AirTag’s battery life is said to last more than a year in daily use. But that doesn’t mean Apple doesn’t offer the option to monitor AirTags’ battery life. When your AirTag battery is low, your Apple device will notify you so you can schedule a replacement. Additionally, there is an easy way to replace the AirTag’s existing battery. Apple’s AirTag comes with a CR2032 battery, which is user-replaceable and widely available through online or offline stores near you.
But before buying a new battery for your AirTag, you should check the status of your existing battery, as the company claims it will provide enough usage to last you a year.
How to check AirTag battery life
Before you begin the steps to check your AirTag battery life, it’s important to note that the device must be connected to the Find My app. Your Apple device (which can be an iPhone, iPad, or Mac) should also be connected to Wi-Fi or cellular Internet to provide accurate details. If these two conditions are met, you can continue with the following steps.
-
Open the Find My app on your Apple device.
-
Now, click on the name of your AirTag. You’ll see the battery status immediately after the AirTag name and location.
Apple doesn’t provide an option to see the exact battery percentage remaining on an AirTag. However, the battery status provided through the Find My app is enough to advise you when the battery needs to be replaced.
How to replace the AirTag battery
Replacing your AirTag’s battery takes just a few steps. Before starting the replacement process, make sure you have removed the AirTag from the accessory or case it is attached to.
- Hold the AirTag with its stainless steel battery cover facing you.
- Press down on the cap and turn it counterclockwise until it stops spinning.
- Release your fingers. The battery cover will now pop up.
- Pull the cover open and remove the battery, then insert the new battery with the positive terminal facing you.
- Once the battery is properly positioned, align the three tabs on the cover with the slots on the AirTag, then press down slightly to reattach the cover.
- The AirTag will now play a song to indicate that a new battery is connected.
- Turn the cap clockwise until it stops.
Keep original batteries out of the reach of children and dispose of them properly.
