New Jersey, Delaware issue blizzard warnings

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for nearly all of New Jersey and southern Delaware, with the combination of heavy snow and strong winds likely to cause heavy snow conditions.

A winter storm warning has been issued for Philadelphia and all surrounding counties.

The recommendations are in effect from Sunday morning and will last until Monday night.

Forecasters expected 8 to 12 inches of rain in Philadelphia and surrounding suburbs in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Areas closer to the coast are expected to bear the brunt of Sunday’s winter storm, with forecasters predicting wind gusts of 12 to 18 inches at points along the Jersey Shore and southern Delaware. Other coastal areas of New Jersey could see wind gusts of 18 to 24 inches.

FOX 29 Meteorologist Drew Anderson predicts it will all start shortly after sunrise on Sunday.

sunday morning: Rain will fall around breakfast time in New Jersey, Delaware and Philadelphia. There will be snow in Pennsylvania suburbs north and west of Philadelphia. Rain and snow will be light and scattered in the morning.

Sunday afternoon: The storm will intensify and any rain between 1pm and 3pm will quickly turn to snow

sunday night: By dinner time, it will be snowing across the area and getting heavier.

Sunday overnight: This is when the heaviest snow falls, with totals ranging from 6 to 12 inches in Philadelphia and surrounding Pennsylvania counties, parts of southern New Jersey and northern Delaware; 12 to 18 inches are expected in southern Delaware and coastal New Jersey counties; and 3 to 6 inches west of Berks and Lancaster counties.

Monday morning: The snow will start to lighten around breakfast time.

Monday afternoon: The storm will be over by late Monday afternoon.
