How Devin Lloyd, Travis Etienne could give Jaguars 2027 draft a boost

Free agents Devin Lloyd and Travis Etienne could end up giving the Jacksonville Jaguars a boost in the 2027 NFL Draft.

If Lloyd or Etienne end up signing other players in free agency, the Jaguars could receive compensatory picks for either player in the 2027 NFL Draft in return.

So what are compensatory picks?

Each draft, the NFL awards at least 32 additional (compensatory) draft picks to certain players who moved from one team to another during the previous offseason’s free agency period. Simply put, if a team loses more compensatory free agents than they sign, they will receive draft picks in exchange for the difference.

There’s a formula that takes into account a free agent’s playing time, their salary and any postseason honors they earn. Essentially, the better the players, the better the draft picks the team will receive if they lose them.

Considering the quality of players Lloyd and Etienne are, the potential compensatory picks the Jaguars could receive could be pretty good, or even a mid-round pick.

Now, it’s worth noting that if the Jaguars sign any outside compensatory free agents, that addition could offset the fact that Lloyd and/or Etienne signed elsewhere.

The Jaguars are not expected to receive any compensatory picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, as they signed more compensatory free agents than they lost last offseason.

Any compensatory picks received provide James Gladstone with another opportunity to improve the roster or better move around the draft board.
