The Chicago Bears enter another big game as underdogs, but they shouldn’t be underestimated. The San Francisco 49ers are missing several key players. The Bears have multiple favorable matchups they can use to win this game. Ultimately, it will be Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams who bring out the best in themselves to ensure the Bears win again.
Here’s my analysis of the Bears’ matchup against the 49ers at each position:

quarterback
Brock Purdy isn’t fully healthy yet this season, but he’s still performing at a high level and helping this 49ers offense overcome its lack of talent. Most of the time, people put Purdy down because he had all the talent in the world. This season, his lack of talent has forced him to continue to work hard. Caleb Williams is heading in the right direction and is as good as any quarterback in the NFL in clutch situations. Kaleb is a productive player, but he has yet to reach his full potential. Even with room for improvement, I believe Caleb Williams is the better quarterback in this game.
run back
Both running games have been dominant this season, with the Bears’ running game arguably being the better one. However, the better running backs are located in San Francisco. There aren’t many players in the league who are better than Christian McCaffrey, let alone running backs. McCaffrey has been the backbone of the 49ers’ offense, leading the team with 849 receiving yards and, as expected, leading the 49ers with 1,039 passing yards. McCaffrey is on track to become the first player in NFL history to have 1,000 yards receiving and rushing in multiple seasons. McCaffrey was outstanding at running back.

Playmaker
The 49ers have been plagued by injuries on both sides of the ball. Thankfully, they have Swiss Army Knife Christian McCaffery, as well as still the league’s top tight end George Kittle, to help fill the gaps in the playmaking department. Jauan Jennings and Kendrick Bourne are both having big moments this season and both have at least 500 yards this season. While the Bears have exciting playmakers and better depth, the 49ers are the better team and are the more reliable team for Brock Purdy.
trench
Trent Williams has led this team for years, but the rest of the offensive line is nowhere near what Williams is capable of. They were good enough to keep McCaffrey and Brock Purdy productive. Caleb Williams has a better team protecting him and is more dominant in the run game. There aren’t many offensive lines in the NFL that are better than the Bears. The Bears’ offensive line will prove it in this game by dominating the young 49ers defensive line. The Bears’ defensive line, on the other hand, wasn’t nearly as dominant as the offensive line. Montez Sweat has 9.5 sacks this year and is the best pass rusher in the game. The Bears’ defensive line hasn’t been dominant in many games, but with more experience and better interior players, I give the Chicago Bears the thumbs up. I think both Austin Booker and Montez Sweat will be fired in this game.

defender
Now that the Bears have Tremaine Edmonds back and fully healthy, the 49ers have a big gap at the position without Fred Warner. Robert Saleh made the most of the work he had left, allowing the 49ers defense to play at a high level. I don’t think that’s enough to overshadow this positional comparison, as the Bears’ linebackers will take on more of the role and play a key role in the Bears’ victory in this matchup.
middle school
The Bears’ secondary is getting healthier, and with C.J. Gardner-Johnson playing, the Bears aren’t missing Kyler Gordon as much as expected. Jaylen Johnson should no longer appear in the pitch count, while Nashon Wright and Kevin Baird will both be fresh off Pro Bowl nominations. The Bears have a better secondary, and they should be able to limit the 49ers’ playmakers to a certain extent and help them seal the victory. The 49ers’ secondary will include Verus Colston, Loveland, DJ Moore and Luther Burden. The Bears’ playmaker will win the entire game.

special teams
The Bears’ special teams unit has come a long way as of late and is a big reason why the Bears have been able to win in many of their past games. Whether it was Cairo Santos, who was lights out, or Bears special teams ace Josh Blackwell, who made a highlight-reel play like an onside kick against Green Bay. If it comes down to this special team, I give the Chicago Bears more credit.
Counseling
This will be a very good test for Ben Johnson. Kyle Shanahan and Robert Saleh have been performing at an elite level this season. Ben Johnson must take full advantage of both of them. This game could be a great way to solidify Ben Johnson’s offensive prowess at this level. This is the most challenging matchup, but with the way Ben Johnson has played this season, he is rising to the challenge. I’ll tip my hat to Kyle Shanahan and Robert Saleh at this point, but I’m pretty confident that Ben Johnson and Dennis Allen will hold their own.
