Macklin Celebrini scored 32 goals on the season for the Sharks, who also lost to St. Louis in overtime on Friday. Jaroslav Askarov had 32 saves.

Brayden Schenn made his debut for the Islanders after they acquired forward Jonathan Drouin, a goaltending prospect and first- and third-round picks in this year’s draft, from the Blues at the trade deadline. He made one shot and blocked one shot in 20 shifts and 17:26 of ice time.

Both teams scored early before the game stalled into a scoring stagnation.

The game appeared to be heading into a shootout before Horvat’s game-winner ended the offensive drought. Horvat’s backhand shot scored the team’s 27th goal and silenced the San Jose crowd. Matthew Shafer and Matthew Barzal assisted.

The Islanders spent most of the first quarter in the Sharks’ zone and scored DeAngelo’s fifth goal of the season at 8:23. It was the Islanders defender’s first goal since January 26. Assisted by Callum Ridge.

Sharks’ 19-year-old star Celebrini tied the score with his third goal in three games. Celebrini shot from the right circle, past two defenders and Sorokin. Will Smith and John Klingberg both had assists.
