High School Basketball Coach Allegedly Raped Massachusetts Student After Gaving Her Tequila Shots

A Massachusetts girls high school basketball coach is accused of forcing a student to drink alcohol and injecting her with tequila before he was accused of raping the 18-year-old, according to authorities and news reports.

man, Scott Marinowas arrested Wednesday, Feb. 25, on two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault and battery and one count of furnishing alcohol to a person under 21 years of age, the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release shared that day.

Marino, 54, lives in Stoneham, coaches at Malden High School and teaches math to seventh-grade students at Malden-Linden STEAM Academy, CBS News reported.

He is accused of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old on Feb. 18, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Marino’s defense attorney did not immediately return US Weekly A request for comment was made on Friday, February 27.

Marino was in court on Thursday, February 26, and prosecutors said the girl was a player on the basketball team he coached and had been living with him and his wife as a foster care placement, NBC Boston reported. The teen has reportedly been living with Marino and his wife since the fall of 2025.

Prosecutors said the 18-year-old attended Ash Wednesday Mass with Marino and his grandfather, who also lived at Marino’s home, on the day of the alleged attack, the station reported.

After dropping his grandfather off at his house, Marino, 18, reportedly drove to Boston to pick up takeout food and then went to a liquor store.

Prosecutors said Marino was caught on surveillance video buying a strawberry margarita mix, Patron and another liquor at the store, NBC Boston reported.

“Sometime during the night, the defendant [poured] Give them each a shot of tequila,” prosecutor Jacob McCrindle he told the court, CBS News reported.

Marino is accused of forcing the 18-year-old to drink.

McCrindle said Marino also allegedly made the girl a margarita and kept asking “her to drink more,” even though the girl told him she didn’t like the drink, the Boston Herald reported.

The teen eventually vomited and lay somewhere in the house, McCrindle said.

Marino later allegedly raped her boston herald the report said.

“In this relationship, the defendant was the foster parent of the victim and he brought her home, which was a position of trust, and the defendant was a teacher or a former teacher in the Malden Public Schools and he was also her coach for many years,” McCrindle said, according to NBC Boston.

McCrindle said Marino’s wife was not home during the alleged attack and accused Marino of orchestrating the attack, NBC Boston reported.

“Given the seriousness of these allegations, I understand how disturbing and painful this is for our community… The safety of our students and staff is our top priority,” Sipel said.
