The first wave of Social Security payments in March are scheduled to go out this week on a normal schedule.
The March payments follow a worrying report from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). A report from the Congressional Budget Office indicates that the Social Security Trust Fund (officially known as the Old Age and Survivors Insurance Trust Fund) will be depleted in fiscal year 2032 (through September 2032).
As early as June 2025, the plan’s trustees estimated that the fund would be depleted by 2033.
After the trust fund, which covers the difference between Social Security and payroll tax revenue, is depleted, the program will have to start reducing benefit payments.

Who is collecting Social Security this week?
According to the SSA’s payment calendar, beneficiaries born between the 1st and 10th of the birth month will receive their monthly Social Security benefits on Wednesday, March 11th.
When are Social Security payments sent?
Social Security benefits – paid primarily to older or retired beneficiaries – are typically paid on Wednesdays.
According to the SSA’s calendar, if a recipient’s birth date is between the 1st and 10th of the month, they will typically receive their payment on the second Wednesday of the payment month. Beneficiaries born between the 11th and 20th will be paid on the third Wednesday, and those born after the 20th will be paid on the fourth Wednesday.

For people who received Social Security before May 1997, you can receive your payment on the third day of the month, unless it’s a weekend or holiday
Individuals who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) can expect to receive Social Security benefits on the third day of the month and SSI on the first day of the month.

SSI payment schedule for remainder of 2026
Recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) checks typically receive their payments on the first business day of each month. Since March 1, 2026 falls on a Sunday, the March payment will be issued on Friday, February 27, 2026.
