Jalopnik’s Bradley Brownell reviews the 2020 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special, which has an upgraded Screamin’ Eagle 131 crate engine and an as-tested price of $34,894. That’s nearly 50% more than the original MSRP of $23,399 for the standard 2020 Harley-Davidson Street Glide.
The high-end 2020 Harley-Davidson FLHXSE CVO Street Glide is powered by the Milwaukee-Eight 117 and has a hefty MSRP of $40,739, according to JD Power. Of course, the MSRP listed here does not include destination, set-up, taxes, license or insurance.
Over the past five years, a 2020 Harley-Davidson FLHX Street Glide in average condition has lost approximately 38% of its value. The price of a 5-year-old motorcycle depends largely on its condition, including mileage, damage, and normal wear and tear. JD Power suggests a lower retail price of around $10,985 for the 2020 FLHX Street Glide, which may require some touch-up work. The average price for a 2020 Street Glide in good working order with no visible damage or wear is about $14,455. Kelley Blue Book agrees, estimating a trade-in value of $11,200 and a typical list price of about $15,056. These values are location dependent and may fluctuate outside of the author’s Oklahoma location.

The CVO label on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle means the model has received exclusive components and upgrades from the company’s Custom Vehicle Operations division. Upgrades include not only a more powerful Harley-Davidson V-twin engine, but also special paint schemes and limited-edition accessories not typically found outside the CVO range.
Factory customization details in CVO Street Glides increase the MSRP of a new vehicle and result in a higher value after 5 years. Kelley Blue Book reports that the typical listing price for a 2020 Harley-Davidson CVO Street Glide is $26,614. The trade-in value for the same model is estimated at $21,900. JD Power says the 2020 FLHXSE CVO Street Glide has a low retail price of $19,960, while the average retail price is $26,260. Again, these values depend on location.
While the 2020 Harley-Davidson Street Glide has experienced significant depreciation over the years, it’s likely due to its popularity rather than any shortcomings that gives it a terrible resale value for a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Initial popularity meant these bikes were easily found on the second-hand market. As of this writing, Cycle Trader has 171 listings of the 2020 Street Glide nationwide, more than any other 2020 Harley-Davidson model, except for the Road Glide, which has 201 listings.
What about another domestic cruiser?
2020 Indian Emirates Classic. – Indian Motorcycles
Comparisons between Indian and Harley-Davidson baggers are nothing new. Like the Street Glide, the Indian Chieftain is a large, comfortable motorcycle.
The base Chieftain is equipped with a ThunderStroke 111 V-twin engine displacing 1,811cc and 119 pound-feet of torque. High-end Chieftain models, such as the Chieftain Elite, are powered by the more powerful ThunderStroke 116. Otherwise, the Indian Chieftain is similar in appearance and function to the Harley-Davidson Street Glide.
According to JD Power, in 2020, the Chieftain has a starting MSRP of $21,999, which is slightly less than the Street Glide. However, over the past 5 years, the Chieftain has held its value better than the Street Glide.
The 2020 Chieftain currently retails for the lower price (at least in Northeast Oklahoma) of $11,840. The average retail price shows an even wider gap, with the Chieftain valued at $15,580, $1,125 more than the 2020 Street Glide’s average retail price.
The strong resale value could be due to the low number of Chieftain motorcycles on the second-hand market. Turning to Cycle Trader again, we see that there are currently 34 2020 Chieftains listed across the country.
