Heluva mystery! Confusion after 600 tubs of French Onion dip are left at restaurants throughout Philly

This is a huge mystery!

Over the past month, several Philadelphia restaurants have reported receiving a mysterious shipment of 600 barrels of Heluva Good! Branded French Onion Sauce.

The first restaurant to receive a shipment of 600 tubs of the delicious food was the MAC’n Cheesery food stand at Mac Mart, which reported receiving the strange shipment on March 5 without requesting or approving it.

Owner Marti Lieberman told Philadelphia Inquirer She tried in vain to refuse the large shipment of dip.

She later posted about the surprise dive on Instagram and caught the attention of Heluva Good! A spokesperson for the brand then instructed her to get rid of the dip because the company didn’t know where it came from.

Then, suddenly, more and more restaurants in the area reported receiving similar mysterious shipments.

Meanwhile, Ed’s Buffalo Wings and Pizza distributed two large shipments it received to customers.

Heluva Good! makes dips, condiments and cheeses and is part of Linfield, Mass.-based manufacturer HP Hood LLC.

in a statement The Independent, Lynne Bohan, group vice president of HP Hood LLC, which owns Heluva Good!, said: “We are aware that a third-party promotion has unfortunately caused a shipping disruption involving Heluva Good!Dip. The third-party company apparently also reached out to other Philadelphia businesses, including Fox & Son Foods at Reading Station Market. Partner Rebecca Foxman told the newspaper she received several sketchy emails full of typos about free samples, but she ignored them.

However, some restaurants in the City of Brotherly Love could use the freebies.

Philadelphia Puglia Pizza received a full tray of dipping sauce four days before the Super Bowl. Sampling companies Brandshare and Geezy have contacted the pizzeria to take delivery of the treat, but they’re still shocked by the amount they’ve received.

To spread the love, the pizzeria is offering a free tub of dipping sauce to customers who order online.

“We did the best we could with Heluva Good!,” said co-owner Heather Tricarico.

Other restaurants appeared to be trying to take advantage of the downturn, which has since attracted national attention.

Mac Mart, which got rid of the mystery sauce, wrote on Instagram that it would be “leaning in a little bit” by introducing “a range of French onion mac and cheese options.”

“So don’t miss it… let’s officially bid farewell to Dip Gate 2026 together,” the Instagram post read.
