Confidence in the economy is declining under President Donald Trump, CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten noted on Tuesday.
Citing recent polls, he noted that “the economy and inflation are eating Joe Biden’s presidency alive and are now eating Donald Trump’s presidency alive.”

In January 2022, Biden’s economic polling was -19 points, while Trump’s economic polling at the start of his second term was +6 and is now at the same level. down to -20.
“He’s down,” Enten said of Trump. “He went down the slide into the ocean.”
“Donald Trump’s economy is actually in slightly worse shape right now than Joe Biden was in during his presidency,” he added.

Enten went on to say that polls show that a solid majority of 74% of Americans believe the Trump administration has focused too little on lowering prices.
However, some 53% believe the government is too focused on anti-immigration crackdowns and deportations.

Enten predicts that if this trend continues, Republicans will be in for bad news in the 2026 midterm elections.
“If the president’s net approval rating for the economy is positive and Donald Trump is not, then you minimize the loss of House seats, right? You lose about nine seats on average,” he said. “If his net approval rating for the economy is negative, as is the case with Donald Trump now […] The average loss was 28 seats. “
He added that this means goodbye to the Republican majority in the House and possibly even control of the Senate.
