The Federal Aviation Administration ordered ground delays at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Wednesday, January 7, due to cloudy conditions.
The storm system is moving into Arizona from the southwest, and the National Weather Service said it could bring light showers to Arizona, causing dangerous conditions that could affect flights.
Ground delays delay flights by an average of about 66 minutes, according to the FAA’s National Airspace System Status website. The FAA’s order is in effect until 8:59 p.m.
Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport Flight Cancellations and Delays
As of 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sky Harbor Airport had 136 flights delayed and four canceled, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.
According to the FAA, a ground delay is when a flight bound for an airport experiencing adverse conditions must take off late. The FAA will not cancel flights.
