Grand Forks police distribute photo of car, hoping to speak to owner

Jan. 27—GRAND FORKS — The Grand Forks Police Department has distributed a photo of a vehicle in the hope the public can help shed light on an alleged assault over the weekend.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, January 27, GFPD sent a photo to the media showing the red four-door sedan.

“Detectives would like to speak with the driver of the vehicle to determine where the victim was captured, as well as any other information relevant to this case,” a GFPD media release stated.

Anyone with information about this vehicle is asked to contact Sgt. Engstrom at 701-787-8007 or email pengstrom@grandforksgov.com.

This stems from a case that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, January 25. According to GFPD, a man was taken to Altru Hospital’s emergency room by private vehicle shortly after midnight. He suffered severe lacerations to his head and arms and said he was attacked with a sharp object by a random male subject in a residential area south of the hospital. The vehicle that dropped him off was said to be driven by a passer-by, but the identity of that person was unclear, the report said.

No evidence of an attack has been found, the report said.

“It is unclear where the attack occurred or even if it occurred within the city of Grand Forks,” the report said. “We are unable to corroborate the victim’s account. No evidence has been obtained to indicate a threat to the public, but people are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings and be on the lookout for any suspicious people or situations.”
