In betting on who will be the 2028 Republican presidential nominee, Republican rivals are rising, and Vice President J.D. Vance has fallen below an important threshold.
Kalshi betting site shows that 18% of campaign bettors believe Secretary of State Marco Rubio will be the Republican presidential candidate in three years.
On January 3, only 11% of those who placed bets on the site selected Rubio as the nominee.
Meanwhile, 46.7% of bettors believe Vance will be the nominee.
While Vance still leads bettors on Calsey’s site, his numbers have declined since Jan. 3, while Rubio’s numbers have been rising.
A month ago, 50% of bettors were betting that Vance would be the nominee.
In fact, more than 50% of gamblers have been choosing Vance to place their bets on the site since last July.
The 50% threshold is seen as an important indicator of support, including for elected officials and candidates.
Vance’s approval rating began to fall below 50% in November, but it was only in recent weeks that Rubio’s approval rating increased significantly.
In December, the secretary of state received single-digit support from bets on Calshey’s website.
Vance is widely leading in polls in the 2028 race and is seen as a possible heir apparent to President Donald Trump.
Trump has said in the past that the Republican votes of Vance and Rubio would be powerful in 2028.
The president has yet to formally endorse his White House successor.
