Sunday, good morning america The weatherman shared a photo of himself in a hospital bed following recent heart surgery following a “nuclear stress test” days ago. “Thank you Dr. Stam Lerakis and Dr. Sharma and the amazing team of nurses at @mountsinaimedicalcenter Fuster Heart Hospital!” he began his caption.
“As many of you know I had a nuclear stress test last Thursday. We found something that needed to be taken care of, so today. I went to the cath lab…and we took care of it. Thanks for the procedures. I’m fine and expected to make a full recovery. ❤️”
A nuclear stress test is an imaging test that “shows how blood flows to the heart at rest and during exercise” by using “small amounts of radioactive material,” according to the Mayo Clinic. These tests are used to detect “poor blood flow or heart damage.”

Champion’s colleagues sent their best wishes in the comments. “If you need anything you know it! Wishing you a speedy recovery! ❤️,” Robin Roberts wrote.

this good morning america The weatherman previously spoke about his skin cancer diagnosis in October 2024 and urged viewers to wear sunscreen frequently. Champion noticed an unusual mark on his face, which turned out to be nodular basal cell carcinoma.
“I hope that one day no one will need surgery to get rid of skin cancer, but, for now, we have to pay close attention to our skin, put our hands on it, be hypervigilant, watch for any unusual spots, and get treatment immediately if they start to change,” he said on the show at the time, which included his medical appointments to have the spots removed.
“No matter how old you are — I had my first at 26 — no matter your skin color, skin type, skin color, they are reducing skin cancer for everyone,” Champion added. “So, it’s an issue for everyone.”
